Links to Other Charities Supporting my Work in Nepal
Although my heart is in the right place and I will work hard for Thokarpa, I know that I am very much an amateur. I needed expert advice from day one and did not take even the first step in any direction until I knew all the implications. I did not want to give the villagers hope and then let them down.
The two established charities that I have turned to at every step along the way are:
1. COMMUNITY ACTION NEPAL [CAN] reg charity no. 1067772
They are based in Wigton, Cumbria.
Their Patron is Sir Chris Bonington C.B.E and their operatons director is Doug Scott C.B.E.
They act as my 'umbrella' and I can refer to them for official purposes. This is recommended for small charities working in a similar field to a much larger one.
Doug and his team have provided Javea with technical and government procedure advice for our projects, and the help of a Nepalese engineer when we needed it. Their help has been invaluable.
Any information on their personnel and work can be viewed on the CAN website: http://www.canepal.org.uk
2. PHASE WORLD WIDE [PHASE] reg. Charity no. 1112734
They are based in South Yorkshire.
Dr. Gerda Pohl and Jiban Karki have given Javea help with all things medical. They advised on the setting up of the Health Post, government registrations, medicines and equipment. They guided Jack and the Nepalese committee through the advertising for our nurse and gave an open invitation for her to attend Phase training sessions. One of their senior nurses also makes periodic visits to our Health Post, to provide ongoing support.
Information about this team can be found on the PHASE website.
Without these groups I could not have achieved anything.
