Welcome to Javea in Nepal
The republic of Nepal is a small country in the Himalayas between India to the south and Tibet, China to the north. It is a very beautiful country, rising from the flat plain of the Terai with its National Park, the Kathmandu Valley and a steady climb up through the terraced middle hills to the magnificent mountain range, the highest in the world with 8 out of 10 of the highest peaks, the highest being Everest.
It is also among the poorest countries in the world and all the beauty of the area does not feed the people. Many villages have no access to a clean drinking water supply, basic health care provision or schools.
The people on the hillsides are very poor and live by growing their food on the terraced slopes. The ground is poor and hard to work. Often crops fail because of the summer heat and lack of water.
On a visit to this area, the hardships were evident. No clean water, no health facilities and often not enough food. Their clothes were not always adequate for the harsh conditions that come with their winter season. The people walk and work in flip-flops or most often bare feet.
In spite of all the poor circumstances, the people remain cheerful and up-beat. When offered some help, with expertise to guide them, they willingly do everything they can to improve their community and make a better life for their children.
These factors prompted the formation of Javea, a charity operating in Nepal, with the aim of addressing these hardships. Javea was set up in 2002 with a Nepalese committee and Jack as its chairman.
Javea in Nepal is concentrating our projects in Thokarpa, an area in the middle hills, North east of Kathmandu, the capital.
We decided on our Logo:
Joint Activities between U.K. and Nepal to improve Village life and Environment in the Area of Thokarpa
